It’s the President Hotel’s 20th birthday and we’re celebrating with a stylish makeover and fresh new features. The first phase of the extensive renovation plan kicks off in mid June, and we are excited to be creating beautiful, new spaces for you to enjoy at the hotel.
A Presidential Start
The President Hotel has stood at the foot of Lion’s Head for over a century. Built in 1887, this iconic Grand Dame of the Atlantic Seaboard was originally named the Queen’s Hotel. On the 3rd of June 1998, President Nelson Mandela officially reopened this award-winning establishment as the President Hotel, which Capetonians know and love today.
Since becoming an independent brand nearly three years ago, the hotel has enjoyed numerous improvements. These updates have turned it into one of the most sought-after hotels along the Atlantic Seaboard. Recently, the large conference facilities were given a complete revamp with contemporary dining and bar areas added to the offering. These included the Botany Café, which serves fresh and healthy deli food. And the trendy Deck Bar – the perfect spot for a chilled afternoon of tapas and sundowners. The latest addition in 2017 was the Base pizzeria, serving a delicious selection of gourmet, woodfired pizzas.
Starting in mid June, the President Hotel will undergo a full refurbishment of the main reception and group arrival areas. This will include a hip, new, pop-up cocktail bar and business lounge where guests and locals alike can hang out and sip their favourite drinks in style. Certain floors and rooms of the hotel have already started to undergo a makeover, with new soft furnishings, artwork, lighting and seating areas. In just a few short months, the freshly styled guest areas will be ready to welcome visitors, while the full room renovations are due to start in 2019.
Our Presidential Signature Style
The style of the new areas will be sophisticated and contemporary with a focus on authenticity and a considered use of space. The design style will draw inspiration from the stunning Cape Town surrounds, including iconic Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the breath-taking Atlantic Ocean. Kinetic art will also add vivid colour and dynamic energy to bedrooms and corridors. Renowned photographer and nature conservationist, Sacha Specker, has been commissioned to shoot exclusive images to enhance the hotel’s new look.
The Big Reveal
Our brand new look will be launched in September with lots of exciting events hosted in the new and improved areas.
