If you’ve chosen Cape Town as your holiday destination, you probably know all too well that there is nowhere better in the world and that this little ecosystem on the Southern-most tip of Africa offers visitors a wealth of things to do, many of which are not far from our front door. Whether you’re open to suggestion or already have your Cape Town Bucket List written in ink (and need to make sure you’re covering the best of the best), here is a list of our favourites, all within 5km of The President Hotel…

The V&A Waterfront is down the road from us, 5km away to be precise. Here you’ll find not only a wide range of department stores and boutiques but also tens of exceptional restaurants, two cinemas, a world class Aquarium and a gateway to a number of activities like boat trips, helicopter flips, food markets, and art galleries – Zeitz MOCAA is a must. There is also Watershed, which is one of the best places in Cape Town for picking up unique curios and gifts, all the while supporting local trade.

Take the cable car up Table Mountain and explore the magnificent plateau on top, hike Lion’s Head (although this popular route will be closed from January 7 to February 15 for maintenance), try a nearby boutique gym (like Sweat 1000 in Sea Point, The Station in De Waterkant, or The Hype Boxing Gym in Sea Point), a class at one of our world-class yoga studios (Wild Thing, Yoga Life, or Hot Dog Yoga Studio), swim in the Sea Point Pavillion Swimming Pool or in the rock pool on Saunder’s Beach (just below our hotel), cycle (rent a bike from UpCycles), walk through Green Point Park or just enjoy a jog along our most magnificent Sea Point Promenade. You can also paraglide from Signal Hill right down onto the Promenade and then stroll back to our hotel. For the golfers, Metropolitan Golf Club in Mouille Point is home to one of Cape Town’s premiere golf courses.

While we would love it if you ate every meal in our hotel, from the menus we’re extremely proud of, sometimes you need to branch out so here are some of our favorites in the area…

Breakfast: Kleinsky’s Sea Point (bagels) | Jarryd’s (Benedict) | Jason Bakery Green Point (perfect pastries)

Lunch: The Strangers Club (hipster) | Loading Bay (trendy) | Make Sushi  (There isn’t a view or a stand-out atmosphere but this is a delicious sushi spot, that only locals know about)

Dinner: NV-80 (perfect steak) | La Mouette (finer dining) | El Burro (delicious Mexican food)

Drinks: Bungalow (swanky) | Rockpool (casual) | Tiger’s Milk, Camps Bay (cool)

Still have time to kill?

Have lunch or dinner at The Mojo Market in Sea Point, enjoy sundowners from the Radisson Red rooftop bar in the V&A Waterfront, visit a popular local deli like Giovanni’s or one of our well-stocked supermarkets in the area (Spar, Checkers, Woolworths), make up a little picnic basket, and head down to Clifton 1, 2, 3 or 4.
